Description

Pleasing others above ourselves is something many of us can relate to, and being a performer since the age of eight, it’s been my survival tool…until now.

Death by Doormat is a raw, unfiltered, firsthand account of what it’s like to be a Bonafede people pleaser. I’ll be exposing my vulnerabilities, my insights, and after fifty years, how I’ve liberated myself from this stifling condition.
With print and audio options, it’s constructed for the time poor. There’s no exhaustive tasks or exercises to undertake. Just some new conceptual thinking to raise our awareness on the traits we share, and how to reframe them to improve our daily function.

First we touch on our ‘origin stories’ which are the source of our people pleasing behaviours, to simply identify the patterns we’ve created. We then explore how our vulnerabilities will thwart our attempts to make change. To counteract this, we channel it into a positive charged emotion that keeps us connected.

We then discuss eight major traits which are indicative of people pleasing. The key to understanding them is how they negatively affect our daily living and how to tweak them just enough towards positive change. The closing remarks reassure that there is a way to have the best of both worlds. There is a way to find a healthier balance, look after our own interests while simultaneously being even more present for those around us we love and care for.
